The first level is an introduction to the adventure. The character moves, jumps and explores; then the pace changes. This is where the personal details you selected for the gift can take centre stage.

The Game Gift places its ending programme after level one, before the player continues the wider adventure. What appears depends on the photographs and optional extras in the order. The preview below is recorded from a real demo build, with fictional sample people.

A change of pace

During play, the player is concentrating on the next platform. The reveal gives them a quieter moment to recognise a picture or read a message. That contrast is part of what makes the experience feel like a gift, rather than simply a game with a customised character.

The game has ten levels. Finishing the first level and seeing the personal reveal does not mean the whole adventure is over; the player can continue after the ending sequence.

Photographs give the surprise its meaning

Your prize pictures are memories you choose for the recipient. They appear in the game's presentation, so think about what will read well on a phone as well as on a larger screen. A clear subject is often more effective than a busy group photograph full of tiny faces.

Choose photographs you have permission to use. If someone else appears prominently, consider whether they would be comfortable being included in this personal gift. The sample images shown on our site use invented people.

Optional extras change the sequence

Living pictures add motion to selected photographs when chosen. A supplied video can contribute another moment. A gift card, when included, appears through its own reveal. These extras are optional; an order without them follows the sequence appropriate to its contents.

Preview the available choices and prices in the order form. Avoid assuming that every feature in a sample will appear automatically in your order. The details you choose determine the final combination.

Build a reveal they can enjoy

A good sequence has room to breathe. Pick a few pictures that feel connected and write a message that sounds like you. If you add a video, make its opening understandable without a long explanation.

For an in-person gift, give the recipient time to notice each element. For a remote gift, you might arrange to be on a call when they reach the reveal. Either way, let the surprise do its work.

Try a sample game to get a feel for the experience, or read our birthday guide for ideas about presenting it.
